Pierce County Community Connections
Pierce County Community Connections is home to the Community Action Agency for the county. Community Action provides a variety of social services programs to reduce the impact of poverty on people's lives.
The mission of Pierce County Community Action is to create opportunities for economically disadvantaged people. Community Action coordinates the planning and administration of a variety of funds and programs that help to support the self-sufficiency of low income people in Pierce County. These programs have three main areas of focus:
- Survival Services which support efforts to stabilize families by meeting basic needs (food, clothing, medical, etc.);
- Self-Sufficiency Services which support efforts to move low-income persons toward permanent self-sufficiency (Career Services, Transportation, etc.) ; and
- Early Intervention Services which provide positive intervention at an early stage to assist individuals or families.
Beyond the Borders offers free rides for seniors (over age 65), people with disabilities, or low income residents of rural Pierce County. Beyond the Borders will provide transportation from an individual's home to the nearest transit bus stop. The service can be used for daily trips to work or school, for medical or social services appointments, for shopping trips, recreation, and social activities.

The Mobility Coordinator works with the PCCTC to help develop connections between community partners and Pierce County transportation providers. Through the Travel Ambassador program, the Mobility Coordinator helps to disseminate information about available transportation services, collaborate with human services professionals about their clients' needs, facilitate travel training, and feed data about unmet needs into the transportation planning process.
