The County Coordinated Transportation Plan
The PCCTC develops the Pierce County Transit-Human Service Coordinated Transportation Plan. The Coordinated Plan identifies the transportation needs of the elderly, individuals with disabilities and people with low incomes. The plan proposes strategies for meeting the transportation needs identified in the Coordinated Plan and prioritizes the services for funding and implementation.
Prioritized Service
The PCCTC has placed a high value on transportation choices that will improve accessibility and mobility. That means we've worked to develop more transportation services and to simplify the processes for applying for these services. We've also worked to ensure that people with special transportation needs, such as senior citizens and the disabled, are aware of available services and know how to use them. Currently, funded projects include:
Catholic Community Services (CCS)
Volunteer Coordinator—this program utilizes volunteers to provide rides for seniors
Bus Buddy—volunteers teach people how to ride the bus
Travel Ambassador Program—community members receive training about transportation options available in Pierce County
Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD)
Road to Independence (Employment Transportation)—offers rides to work in rural areas of Pierce County
Road to Independence Driver Training—driver training for WorkFirst participants
Pierce County Community Connections(PCCC)
Beyond the Borders—free rides in rural Pierce County especially to bus or transit stops
Mobility Coordinator—staff person who works on Coordinated Transportation
United Way of Pierce County
2-1-1 Transportation Hotline—provides information about transportation resources
Transportation projects funded through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) programs must be included in the local plan. The PCCTC competes in two grant application processes to secure these funds. One application process is through the PSRC and one process is through the WSDOT.
In addition to the currently funded services, the PCCTC previously funded these studies and produced these reports regarding transportation issues:
Homeless Student Report
Background Check Report
