Volunteer Chore Services

Driver holding an umbrellaVolunteer Chore Services (VCS) is a program of Catholic Community Services which has been has been in existence statewide since 1981 and active in Pierce County since the early 1990s.

The program’s goal is to help low-income seniors and disabled adults remain independent in their own homes for as long as is safely possible. One of the most-requested services that VCS provides is transportation to essential services.

disabledThe clients we serve have limited transportation options due to physical or mental disabilities (temporary or permanent), no family or neighbors to assist them, live outside of public transit service areas and/or cannot afford to pay for transportation services. In some cases, the program also serves older adults who are not low income but who live in rural areas, can no longer safely drive themselves, and have no other transportation options.

Transportation is provided by screened and trained volunteer drivers, who are available to transport participants for medical trips, grocery shopping, food bank visits, and accessing vital services (banking, governmental services, etc.).
