Driver Training
The Puget Sound Educational Services District (PSESD) offers a program that is designed to train WorkFirst participants as van drivers.
The "Road to Independence - WorkFirst Van Program" provides
on-the-job training and driver training classes that allow the participant to receive a "Class B" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) upon completion of the program.
Program participants may also gain up to six months of work experience by driving the "Road to Independence" vans, providing others with free rides to work or other employment related activities.
Many drivers go on to find unsubsidized employment as delivery drivers, public transit drivers or couriers.
To be eligible for this free on the job training program, a person must be a Community Jobs or a Supported Work participant.
